Week at a Glance

I went into this past week plan-less. Let me tell you how this has unfolded.

Tuesdays I spend the greater part of the day planning out the remainder of the week, instead I spent it cleaning out my desk. Now that will help me come this Tuesday yet by skipping my planning my week sure has unfolded into a mess. A more reactive approach and look than a proactive approach and look.

By Wednesday I was gun-ho on straightening up but I reverted back to old habits. See in the past when I would go to clean a room, I would rearrange it. Bad idea! Because what would happen is I'd move the pieces around within the clutter then arrange the areas as I'd like them, remove the clutter, and before you know it every other room looked trashed. Half way through I realized what I was doing, stopped right there, and moved it all back to where it was, and instead cleaned up.

Thursday was the last official day of babysitting and I sort of took it off after they left. I was mentally gone and ended up sleeping 13 hrs from 5pm until 6am. Didn't realize I was so tired but was grateful that night my husband was home.

Then there's Friday, another day that my husband was off. I don't know what it is, but when he's home, I don't get much done. I think it's the fact that he's home, relaxing and spending time with the kids, and I want in on it too. I have a list of things to take care of every day yet on those days when he's off, it's as if I toss that sheet of things to do out the window.

Saturday was the kick off to my mother-in-laws & my own Christmas shopping season. The high school in the county over has a craft show put on by the PTO. I can assure you it makes quite a bit of money and I can never understand why the schools in our county don't jump in on this but I'm sure there's some reason. Either way we go out and spent around 4 hours together doing what we love, shopping for others. When I came home you could tell the kids had been running the show with video games everywhere, stuffed animals lined up on the couch because they needed to watch t.v., dishes in every room but the kitchen. So I spent a few more hours just picking up and I'm still not done. Husband was still enjoying another day off (bugger had three this week, his lazy meter should be well filled now) and once the kids went to spend the night with mother-in-law later that evening, I sat back with hubs and relaxed.

Now it's Sunday, church services are over, hubs is working a double shift today, kids will be home after lunch with grandma and their aunt and uncle. It is the perfect time to get some scrubbing done but instead I'll be taking my husband a lunch at work. This evening will be spent planning our radio show tomorrow, you can follow Renee & I here on blogtalk radio if you'd like. Tomorrow's show is getting the kitchen ready for Thanksgiving later next week. I believe if it wasn't for Renee I'd never think ahead. All of our shows are archived so you can also listen to previous ones as well. Without sounding too biased I think we do a remarkable job considering we have no professional training.

Back to business now that I inserted a radio plug that I wasn't intending to do. If you are still reading, I want to share what I learned this week, or re-learned if you will. There has to be a plan, don't skip the planning parts because it will all fall to pieces. Take for instance someone who is building a house, what's the first thing they do even before purchasing the material? They make a blueprint of what they want, a plan! That's what we need as well, regardless if you live in a house, an apartment, or even an RV. There needs to be a plan. I'm not talking about a super strict plan because those only work for a small amount of people, like 8am make coffee 8:04 go potty 8:06 wash hands. A large percent of those who try a plan like that set themselves up to fail. It's impossible to plan Every second of the day but if you plan for each day to have an objective you'll do better and be able to live life as it's thrown at you. For example, today's plan is to prepare for tomorrows radio show, Monday's plan is to do the show and work on cleaning up. Tuesday's plan will be to plan the remainder of the week up to next Tuesday! And if you need to make another day to plan, do it! You don't always have to plan a week in advance, maybe every three days would be a good goal. Find out what works for you but the message of the day: Stick to it! Even if today doesn't pan out like you had hoped try again tomorrow. It will never work if you give up.

So there's the soap box story of the week. I'll see you all again next week if not before.
